First of all, congratulations on your new Thermomix TM7!
I'm guessing that if you've clicked on this page, you've either just received your TM7, you're waiting for it to arrive, or you've had it sitting on your kitchen counter for a few days wondering where on earth to begin.
If it's the latter, don't worry. You're definitely not the first!
One thing I've learnt from being a Thermomix Advisor since 2020 is that not everyone feels confident using their machine straight out of the box.
Some people are excited to start cooking immediately. Others need a little time to familiarise themselves with the machine, understand what the buttons do, and figure out how everything works.
And that's perfectly fine.
In fact, I'd rather you spend a little time getting to know your TM7 than rush into cooking something complicated and end up feeling frustrated.
So, where should you begin?
Before You Start Cooking, Do These 10 Things
I've put together a simple checklist of the first 10 things I'd recommend doing when you receive your TM7.
This is actually taken from page 12 of my illustrated TM7 guidebook, So You've Got Your TM7, What's New?
I've included the poster below so you can save it and refer to it whenever you need.

Here's a quick walkthrough.
1. Create your Cookidoo account.
Head over to Cookidoo and register for an account if you haven't already. This is where you'll find guided recipes to help you get started.
2. Watch the official unboxing video.
I know you're excited to get cooking, but please don't skip this! Take a few minutes to watch the official Thermomix unboxing video, particularly the safety and setup instructions.
3. Read the printed guide included in your TM7 box.
It contains important information about your machine, including safety instructions that every owner should understand.
4. Find a suitable spot for your TM7.
Place your machine on a clean, flat, sturdy surface, within Wi-Fi range and with enough space around it for safe operation.
5. Plug it directly into a wall socket.
Avoid using extension cords. Make sure the power connection is suitable and secure.
6. Switch on your TM7.
Locate the power button and turn on your machine. Follow the instructions on the screen.
7. Select your preferred language and country.
Choose the appropriate settings for your location. This will help you get started with the correct regional setup.
8. Connect to Wi-Fi and sign in to Cookidoo.
Once connected, you can explore guided recipes directly on your TM7.
9. Get to know your machine before attempting complicated recipes.
This is also a good time to go through my illustrated TM7 guidebook if you have a copy. I've included explanations, illustrations, practical tips and beginner-friendly recipes to help you understand your new machine.
10. Stay connected and keep learning!
Follow other Thermomix users, explore recipes, ask questions and share your cooking experiences.
You don't have to figure everything out on your own.
What Should You Cook First?
Now comes the fun part!
My advice? Start with something simple and familiar.
You don't need to impress anyone with a five-course meal on your first day.
Try cooking rice, making a simple soup, blending a drink or preparing a basic sauce. Choose a guided recipe and follow the instructions carefully.
The goal isn't to master every function in one afternoon. It's to become comfortable using your machine.
Once you've gained a little confidence, you can gradually explore the other features and cooking modes.
And trust me, there's plenty to discover!
A Little About My TM7 Illustrated Guidebook
When I started putting together So You've Got Your TM7, What's New?, I wanted to create something that would make learning about the TM7 less intimidating.
I'm a visual learner myself, and I know how frustrating it can be to read pages of instructions when all you really want is someone to show you how things work.
That's why I designed the guidebook with illustrations, step-by-step explanations, practical tips and beginner-friendly cooking guidance.
The checklist I've shared in this post is from page 12, and it's just one of the many resources I've included to help new TM7 owners get started.
The guidebook is currently sold out, but I'll share updates here on Thy Cook whenever there's news about availability.
One Last Thing...
Please don't feel pressured to learn everything about your Thermomix in the first week.
I've met customers who started cooking confidently on day one, and others who needed a few weeks before they felt comfortable experimenting.
Both are completely normal.
What matters is that you keep trying, asking questions and learning along the way.
After all, you didn't buy a Thermomix just to have another beautiful appliance sitting on your kitchen counter, did you? You bought it to make cooking a little easier.
So take your time, start with something simple, and enjoy the process.
And if you've purchased your Thermomix through me or one of our ThyCookCrew advisors, remember that you also have access to our cooking support community THYCOOKBUDDIES. We're always happy to help you get started.
Happy cooking!
Mai ❤️
